How Recordwell works

Enter a name, email, phone, or username. Recordwell queries connected public-record and open-coverage, matches what it finds to one person, filters out the noise, and writes a plain-language report — as the connected checks complete. Every result shows where it came from so you can verify it yourself.

Is it legal? Can I use it for hiring or tenants?

No — not for those. Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency, and reports may not be used for decisions covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA): employment, tenant screening, credit, or insurance. Searching lawfully public records is legal; using them for FCRA-covered decisions is not permitted.

Your privacy — and removing yourself

We report the number of breaches an address appears in, never the contents of those breaches. To remove your own information, use our Do-not-sell / removal page, and follow the steps there.

Accuracy and namesakes

Public records share no common key (no SSN), so different people with the same name can appear together. Recordwell separates confirmed, anchored matches from name-only matches and never presents a guess as a fact — adding a city narrows results a lot.

Where the data comes from

Only lawfully public and open records, aggregated with verification links. No leaked databases and no illegal data. Read how people-search checks and matching work.

These are the kinds of check a full report runs. Each one reports its own outcome — found, checked and clear, unavailable, or not run — and an empty category means the checks that answered returned nothing, not that nothing exists.

  • Court & legal records
  • Watchlists & sanctions
  • Professional discipline
  • News & media
  • Web & social profiles
  • Biographical records
  • Professional records
  • Property records
  • Business & government filings
  • Public profiles & works

We deliberately do not publish a count of checks, and we do not take phone numbers or email addresses from these checks at all — a report says so on its face.

We publish how many checks are connected, not how many ran for one person: every run queries a different set and some do not answer, so a per-report count would be a promise nobody made. We also do not take phone numbers or email addresses from these checks at all — a report says so on its face.

Billing and cancellation

A full report needs a plan. The price, renewal terms and statement descriptor are shown on the checkout page before any charge, and cancellation is one click — no hidden auto-renew. Checking yourself and removing your own data stay free.

Why Recordwell

Built to be trusted

The coverage you expect, with the honesty most people-search sites don't offer.

Clear, not a data dump

We organize returned signals into a concise, plain-language summary.

Sensitive data stays private

Breach and personal details are unlocked only after you verify the email is yours.

Card stays with Stripe

A full report needs a paid plan. Card details are entered on Stripe’s hosted checkout, never on Recordwell, and the price and renewal terms are shown before payment.

Official property records

County assessor and appraisal records are loaded from the public bodies that publish them.

Results you can understand

Confirmed records are separated from weaker name-only matches.

Remove yourself

Found your own data? We show you how to get it taken down.

Honest by design

Honest by design

We're new — so instead of invented reviews, here's exactly what Recordwell does, and what it won't do.

Confidence, clearly labeled. We separate confirmed records from other people who share the name — no pretending a guess is a match.

You stay in control. No card required to search, sensitive data unlocked only after you verify it's yours — and a one-click way to remove your own information.

Not a background-check service. Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency, so results may not be used for hiring, tenant, credit, or other FCRA-covered decisions.

Why this is hard to do yourself

One name lives in dozens of places. We check them all.

A fuller picture of someone is rarely on page one of a search engine — relevant details can be scattered across profiles, web pages, news and exposure data. Comparing them by hand takes time.

Social & profile discovery

Public profiles and usernames matched across platforms into one identity.

Public & legal records

Courts, licenses, corporate filings, donations and sanctions screening.

Web, news & media

Search results, news mentions and public web references, summarized.

Breach & exposure

Whether an email shows up in known data breaches and what was exposed.

Deterministic cross-referencing

We organize the returned signals into one reproducible report — not a data dump.

Clear confidence

Sensitive items are labeled so you know what requires independent verification.

Structured resultsExplicit confidence1 clear report

Doing this by hand means juggling many tools and hours of cross-referencing. Recordwell keeps the result in one place.

FAQ

Common questions

How long does a report take?

Timing varies by record availability. Recordwell runs connected checks in parallel and writes a single report.

Do I have to pay?

A full report on someone else needs a plan; the price and renewal terms are shown on the checkout page before any charge. There is no trial that quietly converts, and checking yourself or removing your own data stays free.

Can I use Recordwell for a background check, hiring, or tenant screening?

No. Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency and reports may not be used for FCRA-covered decisions like employment, tenancy, credit, or insurance.

How do I remove my own information?

Use the Do-not-sell / removal page to request removal. Verified suppression removes you from future Recordwell results.

Why do I see several people with the same name?

Public records have no shared identifier, so namesakes can appear together. We label confirmed matches separately from name-only matches — add a city to narrow it down.

How accurate is the data?

We show the record of every result and separate anchored matches from name-only ones. Data comes from available records and may be incomplete or out of date — always verify sensitive items at the source information we link to.

Where does the data come from?

Only lawfully public and open records: government registries, courts, professional licenses, sanctions lists, news, and public profiles. No leaked databases.

Is my search private?

Yes. We report the number of breaches an address appears in, never the contents of those breaches.

How do I contact support?

Use the Feedback button on any page — we read every message. Avoid including sensitive personal data.
